Small collection of unpublished writings and early drafts of Millican's published works; some works include editorial marks and annotations. Typescript of novel, The Deity Nodded (published 1973), with manuscript annotations; unpublished short stories include first manuscript draft of "Where You Belong," [in June 1976, winner of an award from the National Endowment for the Arts]; first rough draft of "Rena"; first manuscript copy of "Journey to Somewhere," described as "a novella or long short story" First manuscript draft of a volume of short stories, "The Bottoms and Hills: Virginia Tales," (published 1985), a collection of stories re African American life in Southside Virginia, several stories of which were published previously, including: "Home-sick" (1975), and "Good Grazin'," (1975); includes an introduction by Charles H. Rowell discussing Millican's life and how it informed her writing.
